FAQ

Answers about player ratings, duplicate players, UTC resets, formations, saved records and fair league results in Throwback XI.

How are player ratings decided?

Ratings are our editorial opinion of a player’s performances for a particular club during a particular decade. They are not official ratings from a club, league or data provider. Position fit changes the rating used by the simulation; it does not rewrite the player’s underlying sticker rating.

Why does one player appear at several clubs or in several decades?

Each club-and-era entry represents a different part of a career. A younger winger and an older striker may share a name but have different positions and ratings. A unique player identity still prevents selecting the same person twice in one XI.

When does the Daily reset?

At 00:00 UTC, worldwide. The countdown uses that boundary, so the local reset hour can change with daylight saving time. Daily #1 is October 12, 2026. A saved unfinished draft belongs to its original UTC date.

Can I replay today’s Daily?

A completed Daily returns to the result on that browser. Free Play is available for unlimited fresh drafts. Clearing local data removes local records; it is not a way to create another verified league submission for the same identity and date.

Do formation choices change the Daily draw?

No. All four formations use the same Daily roulette sequence. Your available positions and player choices change, so the final XI and season can differ. Choose the formation before the first round; you cannot change it mid-draft.

Why did a player go into that position automatically?

The game prefers an open primary position, then an open possible position, taking the first slot from left to right when there is a tie. Use Change immediately after placement to choose a different empty slot. With no natural slot left, the game asks where he should play.

Is a famous forward always the best pick?

No. A strong player in the wrong position can contribute less than a less famous natural fit. An unbalanced team can also lose strength. Ratings remain hidden during the draft, so position needs and knowledge of that club era are useful clues rather than guarantees.

Are the 38 matches real historical fixtures?

No. They are a seeded simulation against a fictional season schedule. The same draft state produces the same result, but it is not a forecast, a betting tool or a claim about how historical players would perform together in real life.

How are league ties settled?

Points come first, then wins, then the displayed RTG rounded to one decimal. The weekly table adds the daily values before comparing the rounded total. Equal comparison values share a rank: two joint leaders are shown as =1, =1, followed by 3.

Where are my records saved?

Ordinary game progress and preferences are stored in your browser. League membership, nicknames and verified Daily submissions also use the league server. Clearing browser data can remove local records; save your private recovery code to keep access to your league identity.

Can friends see my Daily players before they play?

League lineups are hidden until the viewer has a verified Daily result for that date. Daily share images hide names. Free Play challenge links are different: the recipient completes the same draw before the head-to-head screen reveals both teams.

What is the difference between Guess the Legend and Legend Streak?

Guess the Legend is one shared career puzzle per UTC day, with Easy and Hard difficulties. Legend Streak is an unlimited four-choice run where one mistake ends the streak. Their records are separate from the 38-match drafting game.

Do I need sound, motion or an account to play?

No. The speaker button controls optional sound, and reduced-motion preferences skip major reveals. Ordinary modes work without an account. Leagues use a device-based identity and optional nickname, with a private recovery code instead of a password login.

Can I suggest a correction?

Yes. Check the club and decade first: another version of the player may intentionally differ. For a factual issue, note the player, club, era and a reliable source. The Contact page explains what to include in a report.
